Bountiis Advises Women To Seek Help Against Anxiety, Cancer, Others

Bounties Charity Initiative (Bountiis), a Muslim women focused Islamic nongovernmental organization has advised women to constantly seek help against anxiety,

The speakers at the Muslimah Health Forum 2021 held recently at the Lagos Television Multipurpose Hall, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos made the submission.

The annual event was organized by Bounties Charity Initiative as a platform to raise conversation on various issues relating to women’s health

The event featured three panels and a debate session on anxiety and depression, hype of cancer the nightmare and the true reality, beauty products, aphrodisiac, sex, sexuality and sexual enhancements.

One the speakers, Dr. Kafayat Ogunshola described anxiety as a disorder as a result of prolonged overthinking and being over worried.

She said, “Free floating anxiety. Unable to determine what could be the problem. Frontal headache is caused by anxiety. Bloating, flatulence, constantly worried over what you have no control over. Overthinking and being over worried and if it goes on for months, then it has caused the threshold of the normal anxiety.”

Dr. Kafayah explained that illnesses such as anxiety, depression, schizophrenia are all medical disorders that require medical treatment.

She said, “If you don’t spiritualize malaria, cancer, kidney failure, then don’t spiritualize anxiety and depression. Depression affects cognitive reasoning, and one needs to seek help.”

Another speaker, Dr. Halimah Olalere, a gynecologists’ listed possible symptoms of anxiety as difficulty sleeping, excessive sleeping, overly trembling visibly, inability to concentrate, gastrointestinal disorders or nausea, headaches, symptoms of ulcer, persistent sadness or excessive crying and not showing interest in anything.

Also, Dr.  Fatimah Habeeb Adeyemi submitted that a woman multitasks because she has many things to contend with.

According to her, once there is a mental history in the family, everyone is predisposed to depression.

She said, “Living a stressful life isn’t good for anyone. Women need a stress coping mechanism. Build on your passion, know who you tell what you are going through, know who you trust. Either a professional like a psychologist. Let us be our sister’s keeper. If you identify a sister in depression, learn to help. Building your capacity and be prepared as a Muslim.”

The second panel session which featured Dr. Fatimah Habeeb Adeyemi, Dr. Idayat Adejumoke Durojaiye, a consultant at Lagos State Teaching Hospital and Kudirat Lawal Adeshina as speakers had extensive discussion on the hype of cancer nightmare and the true reality.

The session moderated by a Nutritionist, Kawthar Folashade Babadtunde emphasized the need for health education as the most important tool that can help in preventing cancer.

Speakers at this session advised women to pay attention to their diet, eat in moderation, engage in routine exercise, live a healthy lifestyle, family support and awareness.

Speakers also suggested that women go for regular screening like self breast examination to check for abnormality, visiting gynecologist once in a year and cervical cancer screening to ensure that they get treatment from a licensed medical center.

They said, “There are options of treatment because it comes from therapy. Not all patients need radiotherapy. The nature of cancer can spread to other parts of the body. So imaging is important to determine which treatment is preferable, either surgery or radiotherapy.”

The third panel moderated by Dr. Hafsah Ameen-Ikoyi with Dr. Halimah Sumonu, Hajiah Mariam Solate-Eshinlokun and Hajia Sola Adebayo, CEO, Simply Naturals as speakers dwelled on beauty products, aphrodisiacs, sex  sexuality and sexual enhancements

The speakers cautioned women against slimming products and inserting too many things into the vagina which may lead to great health problems.

They suggested communication, cleanliness, exercise and psychological well being as factors that help in boosting sexual enhancements.
